Honey mushrooms (Armillaria spp) are edible, though not necessarily a choice edible mushroom that parasitizes dead or dying trees. One often sees them clustered around the base of an infected tree. They do have poisonous lookalikes, as do many edible fungi, so please learn well from your local naturalist or mycologist about mushroom identification before attempting to forage on your own.
