First thing to do before sending money: go to this Questionnaire for prospective participants- please fill out, and I will respond to you via email. This is so we can have a dialogue before you send me a deposit. This is a small cohort, and I know what I share online about it does not answer all questions, so I like to make sure we have clear and compatible expectations before embarking on this journey together.
This 250$ deposit holds your spot in the cohort, unless you have not yet filled out the questionnaire and heard back from me. The full price of this course is a sliding scale of 400$-800$, with the option to pay more than 800$ to contribute to a scholarship fund. If $400 is a hardship, please ask about the current status of the scholarship fund.
Part I of the Shifting Ground cohort experience is all about:
-orienting to and learning about the earth systems and principles that govern the planet we all call home
-unveiling and exploring together the belief systems that led to an earth-age defined by human impact on those systems
-learning to have vulnerable and meaningful conversations about these things as an in-person group
-taking in, digesting, and discussing perspectives, experiences, and frameworks offered by writers, activists, and teachers from all over the world
-practicing the postures of community and care, rooted in respect for difference, curiosity and presence, and accountability to the more-than-human world
-reimagining and remembering the self as a body in a world full of kin; asking ourselves the question: Who am I as human earth?
Participants are asked to approach this course with curiosity, self-responsibility, care, and an openness to reflection. Participants can expect to spend significant time (2-5 hours) between our weekly gatherings reading, listening to podcasts, writing (or recording oral) journal entries, and tending a personal project. All participants will become facilitators/teachers on our final class day, offering us the perspectives and insights they gained through their personal projects.
We will meet in my studio in rural Burnsville, NC, for 8 Saturdays, beginning February 6th, ending March 27th. If there is a date we must postpone for weather, class will extend to April 3rd or April 10th. Class time is 11am to 3pm, with a half hour intermission for lunch.
