Acorn, sprouting. Acorns are not just for the squirrels and blue jays! They are a nutrient dense and sustainable food for humans, too. What is required to eat them is leaching, to rinse the tannins from the meat of the nut, and there are various methods that may be used to accomplish this. Help insure enough food for our descendents' futures by planting some oak trees where you live. Make sure to research which species of oak which will grow in your area produce acorns best suited for human consumption (you're looking for a balance between less tannins and more mass.)
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Chinese Proverb
